I have decided to start a new site! I have purchased the domain barrysharp.net and I will start blogging articles from there. I plan to still leave this site up forever. I still get some looks from time to time and I hope what I have written on here helps.

A Day Without Church

For some of you on the east coast, you might understand this. For some, you might not. We have had some crazy weather this last week. It probably rained for 5 straight days during the week. Our church is located next to the Kanawha River in Leon, WV. for the second year in a row, water had flooded our basement in the church. That also means that our youth room was flooded as well. The water reached our heat pump units in the back of the church and our furnace in the basement. Two of our Trustees worked late into the night to keep the water out as much as they could. The water won. A total of 19 inches of water took up residence in out basement. A decision was made to shut all power to the heating units in the church until the water receded. That made for only one parking lot and a very cold church this morning. Both services were cancelled for today. Sometimes you drag out of bed on a Sunday morning a it is a struggle just to get to church. Especially if you have kids! We have two! But, with today, there was nothing to look forward to. I had my Sunday School lesson ready and now I have to get ready for the next week. No praise music. No fellowship. No Church!! You never know how important church is in your life until you have to miss due to weather. But we will bounce back! We have a great church family. Over the next couple of days, we will get in there and roll up our sleeves and get the job done.

Here We Go Again

I felt that it was time to dust the old blog and give it another try. A couple things have changed though. I did not purchased my domain name altaredyouthministry.com and someone else did. Second, I changed my theme. With that out of the way, check back for more posts to come!!

Spending the day with daughter

This has been one of the craziest weeks for me in a long while. I have been to Columbus twice to see my father-in-law. He seems to be doing great. The doctors and staff at the OSU medical center have been first class.

We came home last night and I was exhausted. But my daughter, Kallie, has no idea what is going on. So, today, I did nothing but play with her. We ate, watched cartoons & music videos, took a nap. It seems to me that whenever I get the chance to spend any time with my daughter, I don’t think about work, ministry or life in general. It is kinda nice!

Praying in Columbus

This has been a long couple of days here in Columbus, Ohio. My wife’s father, Beldon Grady just had surgery to have some cancer removed. There are 16 members of the family here and all are tired. The surgery was a complete success and I give God all of the praise for that! My pastor and his wife came up to spend the day with us. Those 2 people are truly amazing and I love them so much!

Over the past couple of months, we as a church staff have been going through a prayer schedule that we came up with. During those couple of months, I have been praying more and going deeper in those prayers. All I can say is that it has been life altering. I also have purchased a journal and have been writing my thoughts down. I know that my faith has grown stronger because of this prayer time with God!

I am reminded by the verse in Matthew 18:20 that says:

“For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them”

God has truly blessed this family and my wife’s father. Please continue to pray for him as he continues to heal.
